"Once upon a time!"

In this magical story you will get to see fun, silly, delightful, wonderful stories about love and acceptance ... about looking inside to see who someone truly is, instead of just judging the outside cover. It's funny isn't it ... that we all have something about ourselves that we wish was different. Come on, admit it. You do. I do, too. "Gosh, if my nose were just a little thinner ... or my shoulders were just a little wider ... then I would be perfect." Perfect is just so subjective. Regardless of our confidence, or talents, or fortitude, there lives a little voice inside all of us that reminds us in those quiet moments of self-doubt that we are not perfect. It plays the "if only" soundtrack on repeat in our heads.

In our story tonight, Shrek also dreams of being something other than an ogre ... a hero. He longs for acceptance and being able to fit into his world instead of sticking out for being different. We have ALL felt this way in life. How can we possibly hope to live in a loving and accepting world if it doesn't sprout from a little seed in our own hearts? Embracing differences can be a little scary sometimes, because it challenges our understanding of the world that surrounds us. The pressures of "perfection" are just too great, and honestly, just silly. The fairytale characters in our story sing: "We're a screwy but delighted crazy stew!" And boy, that's true! As you leave the theater tonight, I hope that you will have had a chance to reflect on something that might be playing in your own personal "if only" soundtrack on repeat in your head. I also hope that you come to the realization that embracing those things (those things that make you wonderfully perfect already) is a step down the path toward living a more fulfilled and joyful life. As everyone in fairytale land will tell you ... "We are diff'rent. And united, You are us ... and we are you!"
